چکیده

Introduction Congenital variations of the aortic arch and its branches are commonly encountered in radiological practice [13]. A right-sided aortic arch (RAA) with an aberrant left subclavian artery (ALSA) is a rare variation that occurs in 0.05% of the population. The most common vertebral artery variation is the left vertebral artery (LVA) arising from the aortic arch with a reported prevelance of 2.4%-5.8% in the literature [1,4,5]. Duplicated vertebral artery (DVA) variations are very rare either depicted incidentally in autopsy series, or angiographic studies including non-invazive MR and CT angiographic studies which have been increasingly utilized in daily practice [4-8]. We present MDCT angiographic findings of a case of RAA and ALSA associated with duplicated left vertebral artery.

A Case Report of Variant Origin of Left Vertebral Artery from Aortic Arch and its Embryological Explanation

Vertebral artery is the first branch of subclavian artery. It merges with the same artery of the opposite side to form basilar artery and becomes one of the important source of blood supply to the brain. Variation in the origin of left vertebral artery was found in 65 year old female during magnetic resonance angiography of the neck vessels. It originated from aortic arch and was longer as ...

Clinico-Radiological Correlation in 7 Cases of Airway Compression by Vascular Anomalies on MDCT

Compression of the airway by vascular anomalies is a co-morbidity occurring frequently in children with congenital heart diseases. Here we presented a cohort of 7 patients with respiratory distress who showed airway compression due to vascular anomalies on evaluated with multidetector computed tompgraphy. The anomalies detected were double aortic arch, left sided aortic arch with aberrant right...

Multidetector-row CT angiographic findings in the bilateral aortic arch origin of the vertebral arteries.

We recently read the interesting article by Albayram et al (1), which concisely explained the anomalies of the vertebral arteries. We would like to present another rare case of bilateral vertebral arteries originating from the aortic arch. We incidentally diagnosed this condition on the basis of findings on a chest CT scan obtained in a patient with trauma. Our trauma chest CT protocol uses 8 2...

Origin of the right vertebral artery from the left side of the aortic arch proximal to the origin of the left subclavian artery.

The right vertebral artery most commonly originates from the right subclavian artery. There are a variety of anomalous origins of the right vertebral artery described throughout the literature ( 114); however, in most cases the artery arises from a vessel on the right side of the aortic arch. There have only been three reports of the right vertebral artery crossing over from an origin on the le...

Duplicated Vertebral Artery : Literature Review and Clinical Significance

Objective Duplication of the vertebral artery (VA) is a rare vascular variant. This paper describes the anatomy and embryological development of duplicated VAs and reviews the clinical significance. Methods Computed tomography (CT) angiography was performed in 3386 patients (1880 females, 1506 males) between March 2014 and November 2015. We defined duplication of the VA as a condition in whic...
